Hannukkah Menorah Lighting at Galleria Dallas
Galleria Dallas will recognize an important holiday tradition by lighting a Hanukkah menorah on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m.
At the ceremony, Rabbi Andrew Paley of Temple Shalom will deliver remarks before he lights the menorah. The lighting will be followed by a performance by Kol Shalom, Temple Shalom’s youth choir, under the direction of Mandy Monreal. Sufganiyot – jelly doughnuts – will be served while supplies last.
Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish festival commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt. The lighting of the Menorah is the most important Hanukkah custom. Jews light Hanukkah candles to remember the miracle of the Maccabees' victory and the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days in the holy Temple. It is a mitzvah (commandment from God) that Jews "publicize the miracle" by lighting a Hanukkah Menorah each night during the eight days of Hanukkah.
